End-to-end security, from the first to the twelfth word: An encrypted vault, stored on SafeVault Card or QR Code, and always recoverable offline when you need it.
When you open SafeVault for the first time, you create a master password that will be used to derive the cryptographic key protecting your seed phrase. This password is never stored in plain text and is used only during the encryption and decryption processes, which happen fully offline on the device.
Cryptographic key creation
The master password is used to derive the cryptographic key that protects your seed phrase. This key is never stored directly and can be reconstructed whenever needed from the password. Face ID is configured as the primary access method, keeping the master password as a secondary authentication option.
Create or import seed phrase
You can generate a new 12-word seed phrase using the BIP-39 standard or import an existing seed. Import can be done by typing the words manually, scanning an encrypted QR Code, or reading the data from a SafeVault Card via NFC.
Create the secure physical vault
After generating or importing the seed phrase, SafeVault encrypts it before creating the secure physical vault. This vault can be represented by an encrypted QR Code or a SafeVault Card. When you tap the card to the iPhone, the app writes the encrypted data directly to the NFC chip.
Offline physical key
The QR Code or SafeVault Card then acts as an offline physical key to access the secure vault. Even if someone has access to the QR Code or NFC card, the seed phrase remains encrypted, and without the master password, decryption is practically impossible.
Without physical access to the QR Code or SafeVault Card, there is nothing online that can be accessed or attacked. SafeVault works fully offline and lets you verify the vault's integrity at any time by scanning the QR Code or tapping the NFC card.
Whenever you need to recover your seed phrase, just open SafeVault, scan the QR Code or tap the SafeVault Card, and authorize with Face ID. The app decrypts the words only in memory and displays them in a controlled way for recovery.
